Jennifer's Story

After 15 years of practicing dental hygiene, I stumbled across Myofunctional Therapy.  I haven’t been able to unsee what I learned during that time and I’ve become obsessed with helping patients on a level I never thought possible.

Myofunctional disorders are the root cause of common aches and pains that my patients have been complaining about for years.  Frustrating symptoms like TMD, chronic headaches, migraines, neck pain, shoulder pain and tension - can all be tied back to myofunctional disorders.

When our mouths aren’t working and resting properly our body tries to compensate which almost always leads to imbalances.  Years of compensatory movements lead to these issues just like years of improper ergonomics can lead to pain and injury.

Believe it or not, oral posture directly affects facial development and airway health. Improper oral posture often leads to myofunctional disorders, Myofunctional disorders are almost always the root cause of dental crowding, orthodontic relapse, sleep disordered breathing and sleep apnea. They can also be a factor in ADHD.

Left untreated, improper oral posture can lead to a compromised airway.  That’s a real problem because airway health affects sleep quality, behavior, focus, memory and mood.

Fortunately, there is a holistic solution to these problems.  Myofunctional Therapy works  to restore proper function and eliminate the compensatory imbalances that are causing the symptoms and problems I’ve described here.

Myofunctional Therapy exercises are not difficult.  But, like any physical training plan, a successful myofunctional therapy result requires discipline and commitment.  If you are willing to put forth the effort I will match your intensity and together we will improve your overall health.
